Charles Coriaty, a 63-year-old resident of Fishers, Indiana, was formally charged on Wednesday with 20 felony counts. The charges allege that he used an artificial intelligence application to manipulate clothed photographs of young people, making them appear nude.
A judge in Hamilton Circuit Court set his bond at $2.5 million in cash. Coriaty remains in custody at the Hamilton County jail in Noblesville. The Hamilton County Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force issued a news release on Wednesday detailing the charges against him.
Prosecutors filed 10 counts for low-level felony child exploitation. They also filed seven counts for possession of child pornography and three counts for possession of child sex abuse material. All charges are classified as low-level felonies.
The investigation began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children forwarded a CyberTip from SmugMug. SmugMug is a paid platform used for hosting and sharing images. The tip contained approximately 175 images, many of which showed signs of AI alteration.
Detectives obtained a warrant to search Coriaty’s SmugMug account and discovered additional material. A second warrant authorized a search of his home, where officers found computer folders labeled “Teen Models,” “Braces,” and “School Portraits.”
The task force operates out of the Fishers Police Department. It includes personnel from the Fishers, Carmel, Westfield, Noblesville, Greenfield, and Anderson police departments. The group also includes detectives from the Hamilton and Madison county sheriff’s offices and U.S. Homeland Security. The unit handles internet crimes against children in Hamilton, Hancock, Madison, and Tipton counties.
