A 17-year-old girl died after her car failed to stop at a red light and collided with a Jeep on Saturday evening. The crash at the intersection of US 30 and State Route 511 in Vermillion Township resulted in three other people sustaining serious injuries.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers arrived at the scene around 7:13 p.m. The teen was driving a 2010 Hyundai Elantra southbound on SR 511. She did not stop at the sign on US 30 and entered the intersection directly into the path of a 2013 Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep was driven by Maximus Davis, 25, of Jeromesville.

Both vehicles crossed the median and came to rest in the eastbound lanes of US 30. A 2006 Acura TL driven by James Cavera, 19, of Bowling Green, hit the Jeep while traveling eastbound. The Acura left the roadway, and two other cars struck debris scattered across the road.

The teen driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A 17-year-old boy passenger was airlifted to Akron City Hospital with serious injuries. Davis was taken to Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital by Mifflin Fire & EMS before being flown to Grant Medical Center. Cavera was transported to Ohio Health Mansfield by Jeromesville Fire & EMS.

All drivers and passengers were wearing seatbelts. Patrol officials stated that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident. The investigation remains open.

Local agencies assisted on the scene, including the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and five fire and EMS departments.
