WayGO Transportation will provide complimentary bus rides to voters in Wooster on Nov. 3. The service began operating around the city in 2025 after a countywide program ended due to funding issues. This is the first year the agency offers free fares specifically for election purposes. Residents can call the dispatch line to schedule trips.

Kevin White, the WayGO Transportation Manager, stated that access to personal vehicles heavily influences voter turnout, particularly among young people and those in rural areas. He noted that low population density makes independent travel difficult for many residents. The agency aimed to remove transportation barriers so citizens could participate in the election.

Other public transit systems across Ohio are implementing similar measures. Akron METRO Regional Transit Authority will waive fares for its METRO Direct and METRO ADA services on Nov. 3. In Stark County, the Stark Area Regional Transit Authority will offer free rides to all passengers on the same date. The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority announced it will maintain its standard weekday schedule for Election Day.

Lake County and Geauga County transit authorities are also providing free rides to polling locations. These services will also cover trips to respective boards of elections for early voting. Riders in these counties must reserve seats at least one day in advance.

Private rideshare companies are participating in the effort. Lyft is offering a 50 percent discount, capped at $10, for trips to polling places. Users can apply the code VOTE26 in the application before the election. The Vote to Live Foundation is distributing rideshare vouchers worth $25 to $30 for voters in Cleveland, Akron, and Columbus. Residents in Cuyahoga County will receive free Uber rides through the same program.

Volunteers in rural areas are coordinating private vehicles to fill remaining gaps. Dave Devey, the Democratic Party Chair in Carroll County, said his team is arranging rides as needed. He emphasized that the organization focuses on providing access rather than influencing the choice of candidate.

The next step for these programs occurs on Nov. 3, when transit agencies and app users will process the free or discounted fares for trips to polling stations.
