Pipo Nguyen-Duy, a long-time studio art and photography professor at Oberlin College and Conservatory, was among two victims found shot dead at a home in Lorain County. The incident occurred at 33 South Pleasant Street, where police discovered the bodies of a man and a woman.

Oberlin Police initiated the investigation after responding to a report of a smoking vehicle in the college conservatory lot near 77 E College Street at approximately 8:57 a.m. Officers assisted fire crews in locating the registered owner, Daniel Jones, 31, of Ashland, Oregon, to perform a welfare check.

Jones was located at 10:19 a.m. in the 200 block of Shipherd Circle and taken into custody. He is the primary suspect in the deaths. Charges against Jones are currently pending as the investigation continues.

The investigation led officers to the family home on South Pleasant Street. The man, identified by the college as Nguyen-Duy, was found on the first floor with gunshot wounds. A woman was discovered on the second floor, also with gunshot wounds.

During the initial response, the college placed the campus under a shelter-in-place order. Police lifted the order after confirming there was no danger to the campus or the surrounding community. The Lorain County coroner’s office is assisting with the inquiry.
