Two Cincinnati police officers were injured while attempting to disperse a crowd of approximately 2,000 people in the Corryville neighborhood early Sunday morning.
Ken Kober, president of the Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police, stated that the officers were blindsided by the disorderly group. One officer received treatment at the scene, while the second was transported to a hospital. Both are currently recovering at home.
Kober described video footage of the incident, which shows one officer being held on the ground and kicked. After getting up, that officer pursued the individuals who assaulted him. Kober noted that the officer protected himself and then initiated an immediate pursuit.
The FOP president indicated that one arrest has been made in connection with the event. He suggested that additional arrests could follow as the investigation proceeds.
In a statement, the Cincinnati Police Department confirmed it is reviewing the details of the incident after video circulated on social media. The department said its focus remains on the safety and well-being of its officers and the community.
