Michigan residents have a limited window to secure absentee ballots for the November 3 midterm election. With the vote less than one week away, the state has set distinct cut-off times for different application methods.

Voters requesting an absentee ballot by mail or through the online portal must have their request received by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 30. This deadline applies to both digital submissions and physical mail sent to local clerks. Officials recommend that voters initiate this process at least 15 days before Election Day to ensure sufficient time for the ballot to be mailed and returned.

Those choosing to apply in person at their local clerk’s office have until 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, to submit their request. This method allows for immediate processing but requires voters to be physically present at the designated location before the office closes for the day.

Individuals who are not yet registered to vote, or those needing to update their registration, have a longer window for in-person action. They may visit a clerk’s office until 8 p.m. on Election Day itself to register, request an absentee ballot, and submit it on-site. This same-day registration option provides a final opportunity for eligible citizens to participate in the election.

The November 3 contest includes races for governor, U.S. Senate, Michigan Supreme Court, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and two congressional districts. The state is also holding votes on Proposals 1 and 2. Voters can verify their registration status and locate their polling place through the state’s official website.

The election guide notes that Michigan Public will track results for these key races and provide candidate interviews and comparisons. The outlet will publish its coverage on the homepage and its dedicated election page as Election Day approaches. Voters should confirm their specific polling locations and early voting hours on the same platform used to check registration status.
