Forty percentage points separate the two major parties on the value of patriotism, according to a Gallup and With Honor survey released Sunday. The study identifies this gap as the largest disparity among all values measured in the poll.

Forty-six percent of Republican respondents ranked patriotism among the top three values the nation needs most. Only 6% of Democratic respondents placed the value in that category. The survey also identified a 34-point spread on equality, with 44% of Democrats prioritizing it compared to 10% of Republicans.

Gallup noted that Democrats are more likely to cite equality, fairness, and kindness as essential national values. Republicans are more likely to cite responsibility and patriotism. Overall, honesty led the list of urgent needs at 34%, followed by responsibility at 32% and integrity at 31%.

Independents reported different priorities, with 34% selecting honesty, 32% selecting responsibility, and 31% selecting integrity. Only 15% of independents chose patriotism as a top-three value. The data also showed an age divide, with adults aged 65 and older nearly three times as likely to cite patriotism as those aged 18 to 39.

Despite the partisan split, 32% of all Americans said they believed most people shared patriotism as a value. That figure trailed only freedom, which 38% of respondents believed was a shared value. The full list of 12 values included service, kindness, respect, courage, and humility.

Seventy-six percent of respondents believed people shared at least one of the listed values regardless of political affiliation. Another 59% said at least two values were shared, while 46% said at least three were common across the political spectrum.

The survey found broad agreement on political tolerance. Seventy-nine percent of Americans said respecting different values matters more than sharing the same ones. That group included 84% of Democrats, 81% of independents, and 72% of Republicans. Additionally, 70% of respondents said elected leaders must be willing to compromise across party lines, even at personal political cost. Gallup conducted the survey between May 12 and 22 among more than 3,000 U.S. adults.
