The annual dispute over which confections deserve a place in the trick-or-treat bag has reached a verdict in Indianapolis. After sorting through fifty common candies, local reporters determined that Reese's Peanut Butter Cups occupy the top spot. The combination of chocolate and peanut butter secured the lead, outpacing every other option in the lineup.
The ranking extends beyond simple taste. Nostalgia, texture, and emotional memories associated with cold October nights influence the final order. Participants in the survey considered the physical act of tearing open wrappers and the shared experience of trading sweets after costumes came off. These factors shaped which treats people actively sought out and which they discarded.
Snickers took the second position, praised for its mix of peanuts, caramel, nougat, and chocolate. Starburst and Smarties followed in third and fourth, with the former favored for its pink and red varieties. Skittles held the fifth spot, recognized as the leading fruity option. Newer entries like Nerds Gummy Clusters quickly earned a place in the top tier, while Twix ranked seventh for its cookie crunch and caramel base.
The middle of the list includes familiar names such as Kit Kat, Butterfinger, and M&M's. These items occupy the ranks where consumers show consistent preference but less passion than for the top contenders. The ranking reflects a broad consensus on quality, with items like PayDay and Swedish Fish earning higher placements due to their specific textures and flavors.
The bottom of the list reveals persistent dislikes. Peanut Butter Kisses finished in fiftieth place, described as an orange-and-black wrapped taffy that appears annually without being eaten. Circus Peanuts ranked forty-ninth, criticized for its confusing orange color and banana flavor. Necco Wafers and Bit-O-Honey also landed in the lower tiers, with the latter characterized as a chewy relic from a previous generation.
The full list places Candy Corn at forty-seventh and Tootsie Rolls at forty-fourth. These items are frequently found in bags but rarely requested. The ranking provides a definitive guide for consumers deciding which candies to keep and which to share, based on a collective assessment of fifty popular treats.
