Glenville High School football will not play in the 2026 Division III postseason. The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced on Thursday, October 29, that the Tarblooders are disqualified from the playoffs due to player eligibility violations. The decision arrived one day before the team was scheduled to host its first game.

The OHSAA investigation focused on students who attend Ginn Academy, a magnet school within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Ginn Academy does not maintain its own athletic programs. Under current rules, these students are permitted to compete for the Cleveland city school closest to their homes. Investigators found irregularities in how certain Ginn Academy students participated on the Glenville football roster.

Doug Ute, the OHSAA Executive Director, stated that investigators confirmed multiple Glenville players should have competed at other schools during the 2026 season. The association indicated the review may expand to other sports and previous seasons. The findings do not yet determine the specific knowledge or intent of individual student-athletes regarding the eligibility arrangements.

Glenville finished the regular season with an 8-2 record and secured the No. 5 seed in Division III, Region 9. The Tarblooders were set to face University School, a 6-4 team, in the opening round on Friday. With Glenville removed, University School receives a bye into the regional quarterfinals. The Preppers will now play fourth-seeded Salem, which also finished 8-2.

Glenville head coach Ted Ginn Sr. said officials did not consult him before issuing the disqualification. He stated he disagreed with the ruling but declined to elaborate. Tim Stried, the OHSAA Director of Communications, confirmed that the school administration accepted the decision. The program has faced prior disciplinary actions, including a probation in August for practice day violations and a three-year playoff suspension in 2018.

The OHSAA investigation remains in its early stages. Officials plan to review additional participation records across Cleveland Metropolitan School District schools. While the basketball program has not been disqualified, it will move into Division III following updated enrollment figures. The football season is now complete for the Tarblooders, with their championship run ending before a single playoff snap was taken.
