The Ohio Senate race has entered its final phase with early voting closing on November 1 and the general election scheduled for November 2. In that window, campaign events have shifted to community venues to reach undecided voters.
Cure Coffee and Cocktails at 154 N 3rd St. in Columbus hosted a gathering for U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown on October 27. The event featured speakers from Brown’s campaign and representatives from Ohio-based organizations. The Ohio State University’s African American Voices Gospel Choir provided musical entertainment for the crowd.
John Legend, a Springfield native, attended the rally and assisted the Cure Coffee team with behind-the-scenes organization. The Grammy-winning artist greeted attendees and addressed the audience regarding the upcoming vote. He emphasized the value of grassroots mobilization and local community investment during his remarks.
Legend remained at the venue after the political portion of the event concluded. He joined DJ Prime, a vinyl spinner, to perform during the coffee shop’s 45 Alive event. The performance extended the gathering’s reach into a cultural format typical of the location.
Voters in Ohio have until November 1 to cast early ballots. The general election will take place on November 2 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at local polling stations. The close nature of the Senate race has driven campaigns to utilize high-profile local figures to drive turnout.
