The central conflict in the new microseries Power and Influence is a disagreement over artificial intelligence. The show, distributed through Boss Up, places a established business leader against a younger creative who relies on new technology to advance her career. The narrative explores how these opposing views on AI shape workplace dynamics and professional trust.

Ivory Shields plays Nia Whitmore, a chief executive officer who built her company through years of labor. Nia is depicted as a self-made leader who is currently resisting the adoption of a new AI engine. Her hesitation stems from a desire to protect the reputation and legacy she has established. Shields described the character as a blend of Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada and supermodel Naomi Campbell.

In an interview on Get Up Mornings with Erica Campbell, Shields explained that her character is wary of the new tools. "She’s not very trusting of this new AI that’s out there," Shields said. The actress noted that the storyline drives tension because Nia is reluctant to change her operating methods despite the potential benefits of the technology.

Shields pushed back on the idea that Nia is a villain. She argued that the character’s choices are driven by a need to safeguard her accomplishments. Many women, Shields suggested, may recognize their own protective instincts in Nia’s behavior. The role allowed Shields to explore a different facet of her acting abilities while maintaining a tough personality for the character.

Tenia Madan portrays Zuri, a Gen Z creative who is often underestimated by her colleagues. Zuri possesses a strong understanding of technology, which gives her a distinct advantage in the workplace. Madan said she brought her own personality to the role because she has a genuine interest in the field. She previously studied the subject, which helped her connect with Zuri’s perspective on artificial intelligence and deepfakes.

The series examines the tension between generations as they engage with a technology that raises questions about creativity and trust. Zuri is ambitious and uses her technical knowledge to navigate her professional environment. The story frames the conflict between traditional business practices and emerging digital tools as a central theme.

The first four episodes of Power and Influence are currently available for viewing. Madan stated during the interview that four additional episodes are scheduled to be released the following Monday. Viewers can access the series through the TikTok account @bossuptalk or on the Boss Up website at bossup.com.

Urban One entered the microseries market with this project alongside another thriller titled Foul Play. Power and Influence combines workplace drama with current discussions about the role of AI in business. The show presents two ambitious women on opposite sides of a debate regarding how technology should influence professional operations.
