Christian Mbilli defends his WBC super middleweight title against Saul Alvarez on Saturday.

Mbilli is 29-0-1 in his professional career. The oddsmakers list him as a +250 underdog. This is a tighter spread than the fight would have received a year ago. Alvarez is widely considered a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Mbilli earned this fight after Terence Crawford beat Alvarez in September 2025. Crawford retired following that victory. Mbilli moved from interim champion to full titleholder as a result. He captured the interim belt in June 2025 by stopping Maciej Sulecki in the first round. His last fight before the promotion ended in a split draw with Lester Martinez.

Mbilli fights with high volume. He throws 78 punches per round, with 58 being power shots. That is double the average for the weight class. His style relies on driving opponents to the ropes and landing heavy right hands. He also works the body with left hands. He finished Mark Heffron in 40 seconds with a body shot. However, this approach can tire him out. He showed signs of fatigue in the ten-round draw with Martinez.

Alvarez has not stopped an opponent in his last eight fights. Some see this as a warning sign for an aging fighter. Mbilli has a clear path to victory. He is bigger and thrives as an aggressor. Alvarez is not a high-volume puncher. Mbilli can push the pace and turn the fight into a brawl. Terence Crawford told DAZN that Mbilli's style is tailor-made for Alvarez. Crawford believes Mbilli's best chance is to rough up Alvarez and make it a dogfight.

The fight takes place this weekend. Mbilli enters with 24 knockout wins. Alvarez brings experience and technical skill. The matchup pits a young, muscular bruiser against a veteran champion. Fans will watch to see if Mbilli can sustain his pressure over twelve rounds. The outcome will determine the next chapter in the super middleweight division.
