Police in Northern Ireland have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of murder. The arrest follows an intensive search for Carrie Mullane, 39, of Limerick. Officers believe she may have been killed after arriving in the region on Oct. 10.

Mullane is known to have traveled to Enniskillen by bus on Oct. 10. She arrived with a man known to her. The pair took a taxi from the depot on Wellington Road to an address in Trasna Park. This trip occurred around 9 p.m. on Saturday night. That is the last confirmed sighting of the woman.

Detective Superintendent Richard Thornton stated that police have serious concern regarding Mullane's status. He said she may have been the victim of a violent crime. The investigation began after colleagues in An Garda Síochána reported concern for her wellbeing on Oct. 29. Police then classified her as a high-risk missing person.

Mullane's family and friends said she usually maintains almost daily contact with them. The lack of communication caused them to fear for her safety. Thornton noted that reports suggest she may have traveled to the Derry area on Oct. 11. However, police have not found evidence to verify that movement. Her whereabouts have remained unknown since the taxi ride in Enniskillen.

Officers conducted a wide range of search inquiries to locate Mullane. These efforts included reviewing CCTV footage, canvassing houses, and analyzing electronic data. Investigators also interviewed potential witnesses. These steps did not establish her location. The failure to find her led police to the conclusion that a violent crime likely occurred.

Two family liaison officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland traveled to Limerick. They met with Mullane's loved ones to explain the progress of the inquiry. The officers also provided support to the family as they process the news. The arrest marks the first detention in the case.

Police in Enniskillen have issued an appeal for witnesses. They are seeking information about Mullane's movements in the area. The public can provide details through a dedicated online portal. The investigation continues as officers work to confirm the circumstances of her disappearance.
