Janelle Monáe opened her 2026 Halloween season on the Santa Monica Pier by appearing as The Amazing Fishboy. The singer and actor debuted the look during the return of her Wondaween Festival: Creature Carnival. She revealed the costume to attendees before taking the stage for a live performance set.
The event took place beneath operating roller coasters. Cars passed overhead while Monáe performed. Creatures roamed the carnival grounds throughout the night. The setting created a specific atmosphere for the audience, blending live music with the physical infrastructure of the pier.
BACARDÍ returned for a second year as the festival’s official spirits partner. The brand introduced a signature cocktail called the BACARDÍ Spookito. The drink modifies the classic Mojito by adding grenadine. Organizers described the addition as a frightful twist on the standard recipe.
The beverage menu included several other themed options. Guests could order the Creature of the Night Lemonade, the Pina-Ghoul-Ada Spritz, and the BOO-BARDÍ & Cola. These drinks were served from bars constructed specifically for the evening. The bars were positioned around the carnival grounds to integrate with the event layout.
The musical lineup extended beyond Monáe. Shaun Ross, DJ Millie, and Nana Kwabena also performed. Their sets continued the music program late into the night. Partygoers also had access to the pier’s iconic rides. Attendees could ride attractions in costume while sampling the themed menu.
Monáe has used special effects makeup and facial prosthetics for previous Halloween appearances. Past characters included the Cat in the Hat, The Mask, and E.T. The Wondaween Festival serves as a recurring platform for her theatrical presentations. The 2026 event marked the second year of the BACARDÍ partnership, which supported the expanded beverage offering and immersive experience.
