The Dallas Cowboys walked out of Lincoln Financial Field on Monday night with a 38-21 victory that reset their season. After losing two straight games to drop to 2-4, the team snapped its slide to stand 3-4. The win kept them level with the 4-2-1 New York Giants in the NFC East and stopped a three-game losing streak from taking hold.
The path to this moment involved a 22-day wait for a victory, with the last one coming on Oct. 4 against the Houston Texans. During that stretch, the offense scored just 29 points in two games. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw four interceptions in those contests. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer faced external pressure after calling himself an elite playcaller on 105.3 The Fan, despite a 9-13-1 record over the last three seasons.
Monday night offered a different tone. Prescott threw three touchdown passes to lead the scoring. He connected with CeeDee Lamb twice and George Pickens once. The rushing attack provided the other half of the offense. Javonte Williams carried the ball 25 times for a career-high 155 yards. He scored the final touchdown of the game from two yards out with 2:21 remaining. For the first time since 1983, the Cowboys recorded over 200 yards on the ground and over 200 yards through the air in the same game against Philadelphia.
The defense played a supporting role despite early concessions. The Eagles scored on their opening drive and again on the first possession of the second half. The Cowboys responded by sacking rookie quarterback Tanner McKee twice, with hits from Quinnen Williams and Donovan Ezeiruaku. DeMarvion Overshown also intercepted one of McKee's passes. Javonte Williams noted the team was not perfect but valued the result.
Schottenheimer was reserved in his postgame comments, contrasting with his usual locker room celebrations. He said the performance had nothing to do with desperation. When asked if he was okay, he replied that he was great and excited for the team. Prescott observed a hungry version of his coach after the game. Prescott said the group has Schottenheimer's back and understands he takes pride in his job.
The team now faces the 2-5 Arizona Cardinals at AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys have not won back-to-back games since a three-game streak in Weeks 11 through 13 of last year. Prescott emphasized that the league will not hand them victories. He said the team must earn each win every week without expecting recognition for their talent.
According to ESPN Analytics, the Cowboys now have a 57 percent chance of winning the NFC East division. Schottenheimer stated the victory puts the team right back into the hunt for the title.
