The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field to claim their first World Series title. The victory in Game 5 concluded a 58-year history for the franchise, which began as the Seattle Pilots in 1969 and relocated to Milwaukee the following year.

Jacob Misiorowski led the pitching staff with 5 2/3 scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed only two hits and struck out two batters before leaving the game due to a right calf cramp. He threw 86 pitches, 58 of which were strikes, and reached a top velocity of 103 mph twice during the outing.

Cooper Pratt provided the offensive production for the winners. The rookie recorded two hits and two runs batted in. He set a World Series rookie record with six consecutive hits before his sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Pratt also contributed to the early scoring with an RBI single in the second inning against Rays starter Drew Rasmussen.

William Contreras, named the World Series Most Valuable Player, hit an RBI double in the sixth inning. The Brewers built a 4-0 lead before the Rays reduced the deficit. The small-ball approach characterized the series, with the teams combining for just four home runs. Milwaukee accounted for three of those home runs, while Tampa Bay hit one.

Manager Pat Murphy, who survived a heart attack in 2020, guided the team to a 103-62 record in the regular season. The Brewers posted an 11-2 record in the postseason, including a sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series. Murphy praised the team's unity, stating they were not worried about individual statistics but focused on winning together.

Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash acknowledged the difficulty of the loss. The Rays, an expansion team that debuted in 1998, now hold a 0-3 record in World Series appearances. They are the fifth team to lose in Game 5 after falling behind 3-0. Cash described the group as close-knit and grateful for their performance during the season.

The championship ends a 44-year wait for a Milwaukee team to win the World Series. The previous Milwaukee winner was the Braves in 1957, before the franchise moved to Atlanta for the 1966 season. The 1982 Brewers, known as the Wall of Fame team with five Hall of Famers, had lost the previous World Series to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Owner Mark Attanasio addressed fans from the postgame stage. He told the crowd that Milwaukee had waited 44 years and finally had its world championship. The team finished the regular season as the 19th highest payroll in the major leagues, while the Rays ranked 25th.

The win caps a postseason where the Brewers recorded seven comeback victories. Trevor Megill closed the game by retiring Richie Palacios on a groundout to second base. The Brewers will return to their home city for celebrations, ending a season defined by resilience and small-ball execution.
