Israeli airstrikes in Gaza killed at least eight people on Saturday, despite a ceasefire that took effect in October 2025.

Hospital officials in Gaza City reported a missile strike on civilians near Cairo School in the Al-Rimal neighborhood. Three people died in that attack, including a boy aged four. In the southern city of Khan Younis, the Hamas-run ministry of interior said a drone strike hit five police officers in the Al-Mawasi area. The ministry stated the officers were on routine duty when they were killed.

The Israeli military confirmed it carried out two attacks on targets it described as military operatives. The military has not released evidence or further details about the strikes. The five officers killed in Khan Younis were between 23 and 53 years old. The interior ministry labeled the incident a horrific massacre. At Nasser hospital in Khan Younis, body bags lay on the floor as relatives waited.

Ali Oweis, a resident of Al-Rimal, spoke to AFP news agency after the strike in Gaza City. He said his son and his child were sitting in a tent when the missile hit. "There is no ceasefire; the war is ongoing, don't you see?" Oweis said. Outside Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, men gathered to pray next to two body bags and the child's body, which was wrapped in a white towel.

The truce began in October 2025. Israel and Hamas exchanged thousands of Palestinian prisoners for the 48 remaining hostages held in Gaza. The agreement aimed to end the war that started after the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. That attack killed about 1,200 people and led to the capture of 251 hostages.

Since the war began, Gaza's health ministry has reported 74,594 deaths. The UN considers the ministry's figures reliable. Since the ceasefire started, 1,580 people have been killed, according to the same ministry. Israeli air strikes have continued almost every day since the truce began. A peace plan brokered by the Trump administration has stalled. Israel says it targets Hamas operatives, though civilians are often killed in the strikes.
